40th Anniversary Of Orange Park Amateur Radio Club

As part of my research into the club I discovered an article from 2010 that tells us a little about the history of our organization.

We have been:
1.  An official club for 40 years
2.  ARRL affiliated for 38 years
3.  Incorporated for 23 years

Larry Filzen was quoted as saying “In 1973, Ted Jahn, K4YLX and myself, WB4CGD. We went to hamfests and city surplus auctions and bought repeater equipment and put it on the air. We hooked up an autopatch and charged local users$ 25.00 per year to pay for expenses. We were one of the first clubs to offer an autopatch. We wanted to keep costs down so we became a club with a bigger membership and started giving Ham Radio classes”.

Additionally in the article he was also quoted as saying “In 1975, with at least 51% ARRL members, we were recognized as an ARRL affiliate club”.

Congratulation’s OPARC this is a huge achievement we have reached.  We are 40 years old.

Happy Anniversary !
